About The Position

The Evening & Weekend Supervisor serves as the person in charge in the absence of the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager. This role involves addressing patron incidents, maintaining records through a ticketing system, and supporting staff with challenging questions. The supervisor communicates with staff and management, works with Public Safety staff to ensure patron behavior expectations are met, and collaborates with facilities and meeting room services staff to prepare meeting spaces. They direct staff to ensure efficient and effective customer service, proper coverage of service points, and appropriate staff breaks. This position supervises the AV desk, Customer Service desk, and Computer Lab during weekends and evenings, provides reader's advisory services, and handles circulation, account registration, and fine payment functions. Additionally, the supervisor maintains book displays and stays informed about current reading trends, library resources, and professional developments. Branch-specific duties include selling stamps and accepting priority flat rate boxes and envelopes at the North-East branch, which is a designated United States Village Post Office. The role also involves performing other related work and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to meet and serve the public, working effectively with customers of all ages.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn library operations, services and policies, including computer procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience directing staff and workflow.
  • Knowledge of literature and library research resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions consistent with organizational policies.
  • Must be able to access materials from shelves which may be overhead or those which may be below waist level.
  • Must be able to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize daily work routines for location effectively.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills and possess the ability to assist others with technology needs including but not limited to printing, scanning, navigating various websites, email accounts, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and be understood in English is required.
  • High School Diploma / GED and 3 years of customer service experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages utilized in Jackson County, MO, including Spanish, American Sign Language, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
  • Library customer service experience preferred.
  • Diploma / GED may be substituted with 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Preferred previous experience with closing responsibilities such as key holder, floor manager, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain book displays.
  • Keep abreast of current reading trends and resources.
  • Keep abreast of current library resources, trends, and developments in profession.
  • Perform other related work and undertake special projects as assigned.
