About The Position

The Evening & Weekend Supervisor is a part-time role (24 hours per week) responsible for overseeing library operations during evenings and weekends in the absence of the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager. This role involves addressing patron incidents, maintaining records, supporting staff, and ensuring smooth customer service operations. The position also includes specific duties related to the North-East Branch being a designated United States Village Post Office, requiring the sale of stamps and acceptance of priority mail items. The role requires strong customer service skills, the ability to learn library operations, and experience directing staff.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to learn library operations, services and policies, including computer procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience directing staff and workflow.
  • Knowledge of literature and library research resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions consistent with organizational policies.
  • Must be able to access materials from shelves which may be overhead or those which may be below waist level.
  • Must be able to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize daily work routines for location effectively.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills and possess the ability to assist others with technology needs including but not limited to printing, scanning, navigating various websites, email accounts, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to understand and be understood in English is required.
  • High School Diploma / GED and 3 years of customer service experience required.
  • Diploma / GED may be substituted with 2 years of customer service experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Library customer service experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with closing responsibilities such as key holder, floor manager, etc.
  • Proficiency in any non-English languages utilized in Jackson County, MO, including Spanish, American Sign Language, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the person in charge in the absence of the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager.
  • Address patron incidents.
  • Maintain records through a ticketing system.
  • Support staff with challenging questions.
  • Communicate with staff and manager.
  • Work with Public Safety staff to assure patron behavior expectations are consistently followed.
  • Communicate with facilities and meeting room services staff to assure meeting spaces are adequately prepared for use.
  • Direct staff to assure efficient and effective customer service.
  • Direct staff to assure service points are covered and staff receive appropriate breaks.
  • Supervise AV desk, Customer Service desk, and Computer Lab on weekends and evenings.
  • Provide effective reader’s advisory services for all patrons.
  • Provide circulation, account registration, and fine payment functions while maintaining effective, courteous working relationships with all library customers.
  • Maintain book displays.
  • Keep abreast of current reading trends and resources.
  • Keep abreast of current library resources, trends, and developments in profession.
  • Perform other related work and undertake special projects as assigned.
  • Sell stamps and accept priority flat rate boxes and envelopes at the North-East Branch (designated United States Village Post Office).
