About The Position

The Gables of Fitchburg Assisted Living Community is seeking a reliable and motivated Evening Cook to prepare and complete dinner service for residents while ensuring the kitchen is properly cleaned, organized, and secured at the end of each shift. The Evening Cook is responsible for final meal preparation, meal service, kitchen sanitation, food storage, and closing duties. This position is critical to providing residents with a pleasant dining experience and maintaining a safe, efficient kitchen operation.

Requirements

  • Previous cooking, restaurant, or institutional food service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, and pull as required in a commercial kitchen environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete final preparation and cooking of dinner menu items.
  • Prepare meals according to recipes, dietary requirements, and resident preferences.
  • Ensure meals are served on time and presented attractively.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and food temperatures throughout service.
  • Accommodate special dietary needs as directed by the Dining Services Manager.
  • Assist with meal plating and service as needed.
  • Complete any remaining food preparation required for dinner service.
  • Prepare items for the following day's meal production as assigned.
  • Label, date, and properly store food products.
  • Rotate inventory using proper FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize all food preparation surfaces.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen and storage areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers.
  • Properly store all food items and secure refrigeration units.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is turned off and secured.
  • Complete closing checklists and report maintenance or supply issues.
  • Leave the kitchen clean, organized, and prepared for the next day's operation.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with local health regulations and assisted living standards.
  • Report safety concerns, equipment issues, or food quality concerns immediately.
  • Follow proper procedures for food handling, storage, and temperature monitoring.
