Ethernet Tech Lead

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

The Ethernet Tech Lead defines communication architecture at the system and software levels, using SOME/IP and other technologies such as CAN-over-Ethernet (PSOME/IP, raw PDUs, etc.), DDS, and MQTT. The role applies embedded-systems expertise to optimize communication services for network throughput and the ECUs that consume them. The position leads and supports communication technology design, analysis, development, and integration; works with OS, hypervisor, and middleware teams to enable inter-domain communication; and optimizes communication architecture for latency, throughput, resource use, and determinism in real-time and virtualized environments. It also involves debugging Ethernet communication across hardware and software layers, implementing safety- and security-aware communication features, providing technical guidance, and sharing expertise through internal training and webinars.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in embedded software development, focused on SoC platforms or communication frameworks.
  • Experience designing networks for distributed embedded systems.
  • Experience in system design and architecture, including software architecture.
  • Ability to design, write, review, and debug software, and guide software development.
  • Strong experience analyzing Ethernet data trace logs.
  • Strong background with multiple Ethernet protocols such as SOME/IP, CAN-over-Ethernet (PSOME/IP, raw PDUs), DDS, and MQTT.
  • Ability to present effectively in English to multidisciplinary and multicultural audiences.
  • Strong proficiency in advanced C and C++ (14/17+), with a solid understanding of multicore and embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with QNX, Linux, or RTOS environments.
  • Familiarity with network hardware such as Ethernet switches and associated software for these hardware peripherals.
  • Understanding of performance optimization and system profiling techniques.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with virtualization and domain communication in hypervisor-based systems such as QNX Hypervisor or Android GVM.
  • Knowledge of secure boot, trusted execution environments, and memory protection.
  • Familiarity with Yocto, Device Trees, and system configuration for embedded Linux.
  • Understanding of functional safety and cybersecurity standards, including ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434.
  • Proficiency in Python or Shell scripting for automation and validation.
  • Experience with CAN and LIN transceivers and associated software for these hardware peripherals.
  • Exposure to automotive communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, and LIN.
  • Experience in board bring-up, BSPs, or driver integration for SoCs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design, analysis, development, and integration of SOME/IP and other communication technologies, including CAN-over-Ethernet (PSOME/IP, raw PDUs, etc.), DDS, and MQTT.
  • Collaborate with OS, hypervisor, and middleware teams to enable robust inter-domain communication.
  • Optimize communication architecture for latency, throughput, resource usage, and determinism in real-time and virtualized environments such as QNX, Linux, and Android GVM.
  • Debug and troubleshoot Ethernet communication issues across hardware and software layers using tools such as JTAG, tracing frameworks, and logic analyzers.
  • Implement safety- and security-aware features affected by Ethernet-based communications, aligned with ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434.
  • Provide technical guidance to specialists and/or technical references in the area of expertise.
  • Transfer knowledge internally through training and expertise webinars.
