About The Position

Turner Industries is seeking an Estimator for their CapEx team, based out of the Pasadena, TX regional office. The Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate Industrial project estimates and preparing proposal submittal documents. This role requires a strong understanding of petrochemical and refining projects, including civil, structural, piping, and process equipment. The Estimator will perform detailed take-offs, develop preliminary or definitive estimates using company software, create accurate proposal documents, and revise estimates as project scopes change. The position also involves participating in financial and pricing reviews, attending bid meetings and site visits, and collaborating with various internal departments.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of estimating experience with Petrochemical and Refining projects.
  • Strong knowledge of piping, fixed and rotating equipment setting and assembly, foundations/concrete/forms, structural (pipe racks and main framework).
  • Understands the company's industry, current trends, basic product capabilities, core values and markets.
  • Understanding of contractual language.
  • Ability to work in a group environment and willingness to share knowledge and mentor other estimators.
  • Can manage multiple tasks, projects and priorities in a logical, methodical manner.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability and knowledge to review completed bids for accuracy in pricing, resources, equipment, subcontractors, safety considerations, schedule, quality and profits on a competitive basis.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to travel for bid meetings and site visits (normally 1 to 2 days).
  • High School or equivalent education.
  • Willingness to work in an office environment on a 40-hour per week work schedule.
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Strong ability to work in Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate Industrial project estimates.
  • Prepare proposal submittal documents.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications (Civil, Structural, Piping, Process Equipment).
  • Perform detail take-offs for work hours and crew loading.
  • Develop preliminary or definitive estimates for any size project using company software/spreadsheets.
  • Create accurate proposal documents including all client-requested deliverables.
  • Revise estimates when project scope changes or new information becomes available.
  • Participate in financial and pricing reviews with executive leadership.
  • Attend bid meetings and site visits.
  • Develop a work scope, deliverables, responsibility matrix, terms/conditions, etc.
  • Send pertinent information to appropriate divisional manager(s), Contracts, Safety, QC, and Commercial departments.
  • Compile material and labor take-offs.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing/delivery from vendors and suppliers.
  • Interact with customers, vendors, and inter-company personnel on a professional level.
  • Review completed bids for accuracy in pricing, resources, equipment, subcontractors, safety considerations, schedule, quality, and profits.
  • Manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities in a logical, methodical manner.
  • Work independently to meet deadlines.
