About The Position

The Estimator - Mechanical/HVAC supports the sales team on strategic projects that develop our new project base. This role estimates HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical piping and sheet metal opportunities including bid-specification projects, design-build work, retrofits, equipment replacements and service projects. The successful candidate possesses advanced knowledge of HVACR, air distribution, hydronic, plumbing, steam and sheet metal systems and provides innovative, cost-effective solutions to clients. The estimator prepares detailed labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates while providing technical support to Sales and Operations teams.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of mechanical estimating experience with strong HVACR, plumbing, hydronic and sheet metal knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of HVACR, steam, plumbing, hydronic, and ductwork systems.
  • Experience interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications and controls sequences.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code, CSA B52, TSSA requirements and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and computerized estimating software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Background in responding to client inquires in a similar setting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work within a fast-paced environment, and prioritize conflicting demands

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Refrigeration or trade related discipline.
  • Trade designation, CET or P.Eng. considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond to client technical support inquiries.
  • Provide RFP/RFI support to potential clients accurately and efficiently.
  • Estimate commercial and industrial HVACR, hydronic, plumbing and sheet metal opportunities.
  • Perform quantity take-offs for ductwork, piping, HVACR equipment, refrigeration systems, and associated mechanical components.
  • Review drawings, specifications and contract documents to identify scope, risks and opportunities.
  • Complete site surveys and develop project estimates with sales, operations, and project teams.
  • Solicit and evaluate quotations from equipment suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop labour productivity, fabrication and installation estimates for sheet metal and mechanical systems.
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Code, ASHRAE standards, CSA B52 and TSSA requirements.
  • Facilitate project turnover meetings and provide technical support during execution.
  • Stays updated on new product information. Develops and maintains resources for sales and operations team including technical library, cut sheets, manuals and vendor product information. Assists in establishing pricing including verification of subcontractor/vendor costs.
