Requirements

  • 5 years of HVAC or construction-related experience.
  • General understanding of HVAC systems and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards (e.g., International Mechanical Code (IMC), Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), local jurisdiction requirements).
  • Ability to read construction documents and mechanical plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and willing to learn estimating software.
  • Strong math, organization, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a technical role.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in basic calculations.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
  • Receptive to coaching and team collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or coursework in HVAC Technology, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Proficiency in Excel & VBA a Plus.
  • Internship or hands-on HVAC trade experience is a plus.
  • Exposure to take-off tools or construction software (Bluebeam, Trimble, FastEst etc.).
  • Familiarity with ventilation, exhaust, and fresh air requirements, equipment clearances, and basic load considerations.
  • Understanding of permitting requirements and coordination with local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in preparing competitive estimates for commercial HVAC projects.
  • Reviewing mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Perform take-offs for ductwork, piping, and equipment.
  • Generate Proposals.
  • Peer review takeoffs with senior estimators.
  • Organize and input vendor pricing and subcontractor quotes.
  • Maintain estimate documentation and internal bid files.
  • Coordinate with internal teams on scope validation and bidding timelines.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship activities to grow technical skills.
