About The Position

Ed Seguin & Sons is seeking an experienced Estimator for a remote, part-time role. This position offers flexibility and involves preparing estimates for projects related to roads, underground infrastructure, earthworks, aggregates, trucking, and surface mining services. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of how construction projects are executed and the ability to translate this knowledge into accurate and competitive bids. The role requires close collaboration with an experienced operations team and provides an opportunity to influence project planning and pricing within a family-owned company environment.

Requirements

• Five or more years of relevant heavy civil estimating experience.
• Strong knowledge of roadbuilding, earthworks or underground infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Excel and digital takeoff tools such as Bluebeam.
• Ability to prepare detailed estimates independently, explain assumptions clearly and meet deadlines.
• Relevant technical education or an equivalent combination of estimating and field experience.
• Professional judgment, discretion and a commitment to protecting confidential information.
• Daytime availability for coordination and bid closings.
• Must disclose outside work that could create a conflict of interest.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with crushing, aggregates, drilling and blasting, or surface mining is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for assigned projects involving roads, underground infrastructure, earthworks, earthworks, aggregates, trucking and surface mining services.
• Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports and tender requirements.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs and detailed labour, equipment, material and subcontractor estimates.
• Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Work with operations to establish practical construction methods, production rates and schedules.
• Identify scope gaps, risks, assumptions and opportunities to improve competitiveness.
• Prepare bid documents and hand off awarded estimates to the project team.
