About The Position

This role is responsible for performing conceptual and hard bid estimates in the electrical trade. The Estimator 3 Sr will act as a company representative, interact with clients and vendors, and ensure estimates are accurate and complete according to industry standards and codes. The position involves detailed take-offs, cost analysis, value engineering, and collaboration with various teams within the organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of progressive experience in the electrical trade.
  • At least two complete years estimating experience.
  • Proficient estimating experience.
  • Knowledge of Common Building Standards/Practices.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code sufficient to assist in making decisions which impact the project.
  • Knowledge of Electrical construction.
  • Knowledge of Alternating Current theory.
  • Skill in Estimating.
  • Skill in Electrical construction.
  • Skill in Tracking project changes and cost impacts.
  • Skill in Making independent decisions impacting the project and the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain open communication lines with all working relationships.
  • Follow up to ensure items for which the job is accountable are performed.

  • Assist CE with special projects and tasks as needed.
  • Performs Conceptual Estimating.
  • Begin to deal directly with General Contractor or Vendor as a company representative regarding the estimate.
  • Understand the National Electric Code in order to review drawings for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform or review electrical layout of incomplete drawings ensuring the drawings are up to National Electric Code.
  • Read and understand architect provided narratives using independent judgment and discretion to apply the narrative to complete drawings.
  • Enter information into estimating system.
  • Determine equipment cost in lieu of quotes based on independent judgment and experience with guidance from Preconstruction Manager.
  • Write complete proposal and narrative describing conceptual layout developing a budget for the project based on incomplete information prior to project review with Preconstruction Manager.
  • Perform pre-bid reviews with junior Estimators (preliminary review before Preconstruction Manager’s final review).
  • Develop skills in tracking all cost impacts and changes along with generating cost alternatives (value engineering).
  • Attend preconstruction job meetings with Preconstruction Manager representing the company to clients.
  • Track all cost impacts of job prior to turnover to construction.
  • Attend turnover meetings with Preconstruction Manager to explain estimate and budget to construction personnel for constructability.
  • Perform hard bid estimates.
  • Perform full take off by scraping plans, counting fixtures and electrical equipment and entering information into the estimating system.
  • Send quotes out to vendors.
  • Enter and price quoted from vendors into estimating system.
  • Scope quotes, checking subcontractor quotes and bids for completeness and recommends.
  • Qualify exceptions Encore has taken to the drawings.
  • Explains deviations from drawings to General Contractor.
  • Answers general questions from the contractor about their estimate.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
