About The Position

The ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher will support the academic and language development of students participating in the Migrant Summer Program. This role focuses on strengthening students’ English proficiency through engaging, culturally responsive instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while integrating enrichment activities aligned with a summer camp environment. This is a seasonal summer program running June 15–August 3. Applicants must commit to working the full duration of the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, ESL, or related field preferred
  • Candidates must be fluent in Spanish and English; bilingual proficiency is a requirement for this position.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs), youth, or in a classroom setting
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition strategies and differentiated instruction
  • Ability to engage students in a non-traditional, summer learning environment
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to travel on field trips and participate in outdoor/summer activities
  • Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per Delacare regulations.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, or completion of certification within two months of date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily ESL instruction tailored to students with varying levels of English proficiency
  • Develop and implement lesson plans focused on reading, writing, vocabulary, and conversational English
  • Incorporate hands-on, interactive, and project-based learning into instruction
  • Support students’ academic growth while promoting confidence in language use
  • Collaborate with program staff to integrate academic learning into summer camp activities
  • Supervise and actively participate in field trips, ensuring student engagement and safety
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment
  • Monitor student progress and provide informal assessments and feedback
  • Maintain attendance records and support program documentation requirements
  • Communicate effectively with program leadership and support staff
