About The Position

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) will support the daily operations and student experience of the Migrant Summer Program. This role focuses on creating a safe, engaging, and structured environment for youth while assisting with academic enrichment, social-emotional development, and recreational programming. This is a seasonal summer program running June 15–August 3. Applicants must commit to working the full duration of the program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with youth in a school, camp, or community-based setting
  • Ability to engage and manage groups of children in an active environment
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per Delacare regulations
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, or completion of certification within two months of date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • College coursework in education, human services, or related field preferred
  • Bilingual candidates fluent in both English and Spanish are highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively engage a group of youth (ages 5–12) in a safe and structured environment
  • Assist the ESL Teacher with classroom support, small group instruction, and activity facilitation
  • Support English language development by reinforcing vocabulary, conversation, and comprehension during activities
  • Lead and participate in summer camp activities, including games, arts, STEM, and enrichment programming
  • Supervise and travel with students on field trips, ensuring safety, participation, and positive behavior
  • Build positive relationships with youth, serving as a mentor and role model
  • Communicate with students and families as needed, including Spanish-speaking participants
  • Implement behavior management strategies aligned with program expectations
  • Support daily transitions (arrival, dismissal, meals, activities)
  • Maintain accurate attendance and assist with program documentation
  • Ensure compliance with OCCL licensing and safety standards
