About The Position

The ESH Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining an environmental, safety, and health program that aligns with regulatory requirements, contract strategies, organizational policies, and all other site applicable State/Federal regulations. The primary duty of the ESH Manager is to ensure that in the execution of work activities people, the environment, property, finances, risks, and other similarly situated matters are protected and all governing statutes are fully met. The ESH Manager advises on changes, their implementation and provides training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve safe work practices and environments. He/she manages a team of safety officers and actively works with various stakeholders to identify and reduce risk. This position establishes and maintains a strong safety culture through awareness and commitment, while mitigating risk factors across all contract activities. The ESH Manager is responsible for proactively communicating with the customer and Company leadership to ensure collaboration and transparency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental or a related field with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an ESH role or equivalent type position.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive practical experience in a safety and/or environmental management role without a Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 3 years of experience directly managing ESH personnel.
  • Must possess current HAZWOPER training/certification.
  • Ability to develop and implement all types of ESH plans, including tailoring them to site specific requirements (i.e. master safety/environmental, JHAs, lift, spill prevention & response, hazardous material avoidance, etc.).
  • Demonstrated efforts to remain current on ESH standards, tools and resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft policies and procedures and perform presentations and training.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and managing labor, tracking project costs, and implementing strategies to optimize resource utilization.
  • Ability to operate office equipment and use Microsoft Office Suite programs.

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess Safety and Risk related certifications, i.e. OSHA 10/30, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary point of contact for all contract safety, environmental, and health (ESH) issues.
  • Communicates and works directly with the customer’s assigned ESH representative to ensure best ESH practices are utilized for all work activities.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety training program(s) for site employees.
  • Develops and implements ESH plans compliant with customer and company requirements, implements industry standard (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001, etc.) practices and principles where practical to improve performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and implements an SDS tracking and access system in coordination with the Program Manager and appropriate customer personnel.
  • Utilizes leading and lagging indicator metrics and works with other departmental managers to make improvements in areas such as DART rate, LTIR, returning to work, and incident reduction.
  • Establishes and maintains a strong safety culture and continuous focus at all levels of the organization through education, awareness, recognition, briefings, and audits.
  • Leads and participates in the proper execution of key processes, including incident investigations, near miss reports, training, recordkeeping, trend analysis, New Hire Orientation, After Action Reviews/Reports, job hazard analyses, lift planning, etc.
  • Leads preparation and participation in compliance audits; ensures ongoing compliance with processes, policies, recordkeeping, reporting, etc.
  • Effectively and actively utilizes online safety records management database to manage incident, near miss and training records.
  • Develops, implements and manages emergency response programs in conjunction with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develops and oversees a contract wide PPE & equipment program to ensure proper protection is in place for all job activities (i.e. per the JHA).
  • Maintains all required data and completes annual OSHA 300 log for the contract.
  • Dedicatess a minimum 25% to field time for education and inspection opportunities.
  • Monitors and reviews subcontractor safety plans for compliance.
  • Proactively collaborates with Human Resources and Project Management to manage Worker’s Compensation, L&I related claims, return to work, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas, present information, and engage audiences in various settings, including conferences, seminars, and client meetings.
