About The Position

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a ES&S Technologist (Shift Incident Commander) at WVO-West Virginia Operations in South Charleston, WV. In this role, you will help implement the Emergency Services and Security (ES&S) management system to meet business objectives and maintain the site’s license to operate. You will provide hands-on emergency services and security support for the facility, apply technical and operational expertise across a variety of assignments, and serve as an informal resource for less experienced team members as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with an emergency response organization, such as fire, emergency medical service, or industrial safety/emergency services or related experience
  • National Registry EMT
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Willing and able to support after-hours needs outside of typical 8-5
  • You must possess a TWIC card or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum requirement for this U.S.-based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of experience in municipal fire inspection, industrial safety, or related field.
  • Current certification as a State of West Virginia, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Rope Rescue, EVOC, and NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
  • IFSAC/ProBoard Driver-Operator, Confined Space Rescue, Fire Officer 1, Hazmat Technician, Hazmat IC, Incident Safety Officer, and NIMS 300 and 400 certifications.
  • Knowledge of the UCC (Uniform Construction Code), OSHA 1910 standards, and NFPA standards.
  • Certification as an emergency services instructor in fire, EMS, or hazmat, with demonstrated ability to conduct training and speak publicly in front of groups.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to alarms, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, fires, mutual aid calls, and other site emergencies; prepare accurate incident reports.
  • Lead emergency response efforts as Shift Chief or Response Team Leader, establish unified command during incidents, and assume assigned roles within the National Incident Management System.
  • Help protect the facility from fire and other hazards by inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire protection systems and safety equipment.
  • Serve as a primary contact for site security officers; manage and de-escalate security issues and consult with local authorities when appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain emergency plans, pre-incident strategies, and related documentation to support site readiness.
  • Conduct fire and safety training, behavior-based evaluations, and compliance inspections; follow up on corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in planning, training, and coordination of emergency response teams and corporate outreach initiatives; maintain professional communication with management, community representatives, and public officials.
  • Work a 12-hour rotating shift, including holidays, and respond to emergency callbacks in adverse weather or other urgent conditions.
  • Use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and email for reporting, documentation, and communication.
  • Perform tasks independently or as part of a team while following industrial safety rules, practices, and site expectations.
  • Serve as an out-of-hours contact for community issues and safety consultations, and perform additional duties as assigned.
