About The Position

Responsible for administering all ERCOT electric power market settlement issues including data collection/validation, billing, disputes and power mismatches. Responsible for administering billing, payment, and settlement for all Power Purchase Agreements and Physical or Financial energy trading activity.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or Engineering
  • Six (6) years of previous work experience for an electric utility, two (2) years of which should be in wholesale energy supply and/or ERCOT Settlements OR A Master's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or Engineering with Four (4) years of previous work experience for an electric utility, two (2) years of which should be in wholesale energy supply and/or ERCOT Settlements OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
  • Knowledge of wholesale fuel, electric markets and evolving industry and regulatory developments in ERCOT
  • Skills built through ERCOT Market Training and familiarity with the ERCOT Nodal Protocols
  • General knowledge of electric market and accounting/finance principles terminology
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL
  • Familiarity with writing/debugging Visual Basic Code in Excel
  • Considerable knowledge of other Microsoft Office Software
  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of ERCOT data collection requirements
  • Skill to work in a team environment as a positive influence
  • Ability to analyze complex mathematical equations and understand associated terminology

Responsibilities

  • Determine if power market settlement issues need to be disputed with ERCOT
  • Gather, analyze and validate all in-house QSE load, generation, purchased power, ancillary service and financial data by 15-minute intervals on a daily basis for accuracy
  • Prepare and submit appropriate dispute documents to ERCOT, with supporting backup information, within the mandated 10-day deadline
  • Ensure that ERCOT power market settlement data and documents are correct, accurate, timely and are applied as per market protocols
  • Prepares an ERCOT Shadow Settlement daily, continually updating the Excel and Access tools as needed to respond to market and/or DME operational changes
  • Prepare monthly reports for Management
  • Processes all ERCOT and Counterparty Invoices for payment: Receipt, Storage, Validation, Communication, Confirmation & Documentation
  • Conducts analysis and comparisons of utility rates across the ERCOT region
  • Perform various generation, transmission, market studies, and/or administrative duties as delegated/required
  • Performs historical analyses of price, volume, and cost to report annual metrics and provide operational insight to management
  • Verify and process payments for all invoicing concerning DME Power Supply Administration activities
  • Assists in negotiation of power supply contracts
  • Coordinates with other City departments, outside agencies and consultants as appropriate
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
