About The Position

The Erb Institute is seeking talented early-career scholars for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship, commencing September 1, 2027. Fellows will conduct high-quality research at the nexus of sustainability and business/markets, participate in Institute activities, seek external funding, write peer-reviewed articles, and contribute content for various audiences. The fellowship emphasizes a global approach to sustainability, considering social, environmental, and economic impacts. Fellows are expected to be in residence, engage in the intellectual life of the institute, and contribute to its success through guest lecturing, speaking engagements, or translational research. While there are no teaching requirements, limited teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation. The fellowship fosters a positive and inclusive work community, valuing respect, dignity, belonging, listening, feedback, and diverse perspectives.

Requirements

  • Received their Ph.D. or comparable degree between September 1, 2026, and August 31, 2027.
  • Research and academic interests sit at the nexus of sustainability and business/markets.
  • Eligible for an academic visa in the United States (for non-U.S. citizens).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality and impactful research.
  • Seek external funding related to their research.
  • Write jointly-authored and peer-reviewed articles.
  • Contribute content for a broad array of audiences under the Erb Institute’s research and engagement banners.
  • Participate in the intellectual life of the institute.
  • Devote the bulk of their time to their research.
  • Contribute to the success of the Institute (e.g., guest lecturing, speaking engagements, translational research publications, communications support).
  • Build trusting partnerships between the institute’s two schools and across the University of Michigan.
  • Treat others with respect, and dignity, and in a manner where individuals feel they belong.
  • Listen, value feedback, and learn from the perspectives of others.

  • Stipend of $75,000 per year.
