About The Position

The ER Tech/Health Unit Coordinator (ER Tech/HUC) combines the essential roles of ER Tech and HUC, with duties determined by operational needs. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the ER Tech performs delegated technical and clinical tasks and procedures in accordance with the Ohio Board of Nursing. The ER Tech identifies abnormal findings based on established standards and guidelines and reports them to the Registered Nurse.

The HUC supports overall unit operations by coordinating communication, entering data, and stocking or ordering supplies. The role also provides clerical assistance to physicians and staff, and guidance to patients, families, and visitors while promoting a positive patient experience. Tasks are performed under RN oversight and in coordination with other team members.

Requirements

• High school completion or GED.
• Current HealthCare Provider or Professional Rescuer BLS CPR certification is required before completion of orientation.
• No prior job-related work experience is required.
• Successful completion of at least one of the following: previous STNA or CNA training; Patient Care Technician/Assistant training; direct patient care experience within the last five years performing fundamental vital-sign skills and direct patient care activities such as bathing, turning/positioning, and toileting; current nursing school enrollment with at least one clinical rotation completed; or EMT Basic.
• Candidates with previous direct patient care experience may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) after successful skills validation, in lieu of the listed experience or training requirements.
