About The Position

The Equipment Tech is responsible for maintaining a safe environment by adhering to various standards and regulations, ensuring equipment is clean, orderly, and functional. This role involves managing supplies, maintaining stock levels, and ordering as needed. Additionally, the Equipment Tech oversees equipment care, including logging, repair tracking, and orientation for new staff. Effective communication with various departments and personnel is crucial for this position.

Requirements

  • Adheres to OSHA, JC, Board of Health, and hospital standards and requirements.
  • Supports hospital wide and unit wide HCAHPS measures.
  • Maintains clean and safe environment for patients and staff in accordance with hospital policies and other regulatory agencies.
  • Keeps clean utility room and all storage areas clean, orderly, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures equipment is stored properly without violations of health, fire, and safety codes.
  • Reports non-functioning equipment promptly.
  • Maintains assessment equipment: Thermometers, Blood Pressure Machines, Blood Glucose Machines, Pulse oximeters etc.
  • Accounts for equipment prior to leaving and ensures that it is ready for the next shift.
  • Keeps hallways dirty utility room supply room and linen room free from obstructions and clutter.
  • Completes weekly Joint Commission Checklist for unit and reports findings to leadership team.
  • Maintains stock and supply par levels and adjusts as needed.
  • Keeps unit stocked appropriately with supplies.
  • Orders supplies when needed.
  • Keeps track of supply orders.
  • Maintains department supplies and inventory.
  • Monitors quantity of equipment in use and discusses anticipated demand with clinical coordinator.
  • Monitors usage rate of all disposable equipment daily.
  • Maintains adequate stock of all equipment, supplies and forms.
  • Performs weekly inventory of supplies to ensure adequate stores.
  • Arranges acquisition of additional supplies as needed.
  • Ensures that ordering of supplies is done in a timely manner.
  • Maintains storage areas in a manner consistent with JC and hospital safety standards.
  • Segregates appropriate equipment related to age, size, weight, and function.
  • Keeps log numbers of all equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to oversee equipment sent to clinical for repair.
  • Keeps on top of all repairs and follows up with clinical department.
  • Reports all lost or broken equipment to manager or designee.
  • Keeps equipment ready for use clean plugged in.
  • Orients new staff in care of equipment.
  • Returns rental equipment on a timely basis.
  • Oversees the process for equipment repairs by Clinical Engineering.
  • Works with other departments effectively when borrowing and returning equipment to its proper owner.
  • Works in a self-directed manner, accurately communicating pertinent information to appropriate personnel.
  • Keeps manager, Assistant Nurse Managers, and charge nurse informed of status of supplies and equipment.
  • Acts as a liaison to the following departments: Clinical Engineering, Plant Engineering, Resource Coordinator, Storeroom and CSR.
  • Work with Nursing Assistants to meet environmental and equipment needs of the unit.
  • Act as a resource person for new personnel for location and procurement of supplies.
  • Assists staff with other duties as requested.
