About The Position

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. (GOH), a leader in heavy highway construction since 1952, is seeking experienced equipment operators. GOH equipment operators operate heavy, material-moving construction equipment to excavate, prepare, maintain, and/or repair civil and heavy highway-related projects. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Must be prompt, reliable, and dependable.
  • Must have a valid driver's license for the state in which you resided with acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safe trenching regulations.
  • Knowledge of Utility installation.
  • Knowledge of Heavy construction equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of Construction operations.
  • Knowledge of Basic and routine construction drawings, blueprints, sketches, diagrams and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Soils, aggregate fill materials, bases, proper mixing and compacting techniques.
  • Knowledge of Quality control standards and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize problems or errors at work site related to position.
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect problems with equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn and follow GOH Company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with indirect supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer knowledge of GPS/LPS for respective machine.
  • Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer certificate or degree in Heavy Equipment Operation or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment in and among live traffic and in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks/procedures, as well as equipment lubrication.
  • Wear personal protective equipment.
  • Meet performance and technical standards.
  • Comply with company quality control standards and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to promote teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency.
  • Read grade stakes and use a lock level.
  • Assist with approved loading and tie-down procedure.
  • Complete required paperwork including Operator's Daily Report.
  • Perform manual labor such as digging or shoveling, assisting with placement of pipe and material, or other manual labor duties.
  • Communicate with Equipment Manager, Shop Superintendent, Leader, customers and peers concerning equipment and job-related problems.
  • Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
