About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Anchorage International Airport, is seeking an Equipment Operator Journey 2 to operate all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of the Anchorage International Airport (ANC). This includes equipment such as motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, airport snow removal machines, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor-trailer combinations. The role requires operating equipment safely and efficiently in a dynamic environment, especially during snow/ice events, and communicating clearly via radio. Daily duties involve snow removal from various surfaces, equipment cleaning, concrete and asphalt repair, and brush/tree removal. As part of the Airfield Maintenance (AFM) crew, the candidate will maintain airports and roadways in all conditions, including plowing snow, repairing asphalt, conducting security inspections, maintaining lighting systems, and clearing vegetation. The mission at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is to spearhead the development, operation, and maintenance of the airport, serving Anchorage, Alaska, and the global community. The airport is recognized with numerous awards and its dedicated team functions seamlessly to ensure safety and efficient functioning. Anchorage International Airport is the largest airport in Alaska and the fourth busiest cargo airport worldwide, with a workforce of 110 staff members in the Airfield Maintenance Station collaborating to uphold regulatory certifications and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Must be an ALASKA RESIDENT.
  • Must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542), which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must pass a Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment.
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383).
  • Must register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety sensitive duties.
  • Must provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.
  • A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire.
  • Must sign an agreement to obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 120 days of hire as a condition of employment.
  • Must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures.
  • Must pass the required Pre-Employment drug test.
  • Must fill in the Education section of the application.
  • Must provide copies of transcripts to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies.
  • Must provide employer’s name, job title, dates of employment, and whether full-or part-time if using work experience not already documented in the application.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment on the airfield and airport property.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a dynamic environment that is rapidly changing during snow/ice events.
  • Communicate clearly on company and air to ground radios.
  • Remove snow from the airfield surfaces, parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks.
  • Clean equipment.
  • Perform emergency concrete and asphalt repair.
  • Conduct brush and tree removal.
  • Perform other labor-intensive jobs.
  • Operate and maintain airports and roadways in all conditions.
  • Plow snow in near “white-out” conditions to prepare the airport for normal aircraft operations.
  • Maintain roadways safely for the traveling public.
  • Repair asphalt on paved surfaces.
  • Conduct security inspections on the airport.
  • Maintain airport lighting systems.
  • Clear rights-of-way and airport safety areas of vegetation overgrowth.
  • Train for any emergency that may occur.
