About The Position

The City of Hampton Public Works Wastewater Operations is looking for an Equipment Operator IV to operate specialized, complex heavy-duty equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's public works infrastructure. Requirements

High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in equipment operation or closely related experience.
A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy; will be subject to random testing while an incumbent in this position.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or a valid driver’s license and obtain a State of Virginia CDL Class A within 180 days of employment.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
