About The Position

Sarasota County is seeking an Equipment Operator II in the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department. This position starts out paying $18.21/hr (Step 1), benefits begin within 60 days of hire, and there are numerous opportunities for growth and development. In this role, you will operate a grapple truck for the tree crew to remove debris. Transport and operate tractors and skid steers to remove large tree and landscape debris. Operate bushhogs, zero-turn and 11’ rotary mowers to mow areas in Parks, Beaches, and other County-owned and maintained properties. Use of handheld tools in accomplishing daily tasks and debris removal at various park locations. Tools to include string trimmer, blower, rake, shovel, etc. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment that is used in accordance with maintenance standards. Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed. Complete assigned work orders productively and professionally. Use various Microsoft and other software applications to complete other related duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of one or more pieces of the equipment described herein.
  • Must have a valid Florida Class A CDL.
  • Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire
  • Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
  • An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.
