About The Position

The City of Fayetteville is recruiting an Equipment Operator I for its Transit department. The role operates construction and maintenance equipment in support of transit vehicles and equipment activities, including mowing, loading, and related operations, and performs other transit operations. The position also supports maintenance, solid waste, construction, and grounds work; transports equipment and materials; and carries out routine repairs and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

• Six months of experience involving skilled operation of light construction and maintenance equipment in parks, cemeteries, horticulture environments, street repair or maintenance, transit operations, or a related field.
• Training equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
• Candidates selected for hire must submit proof of education before a firm job offer.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a Biohazard course.
• Flagger certification.
• Pesticide Applicator license.

Responsibilities

• Operate light construction power-driven equipment, including tractors, riding and push mowers, small dump trucks, solid waste collection vehicles, and other equipment.
• Participate in repairing and maintaining city-owned properties, including parks, cemeteries, streets, roads, alleyways, bus shelters, benches, solar lights, bus stop signs, and drainage systems.
• Perform grounds maintenance, construction, and maintenance tasks such as mowing, clearing fence lines, seeding, weeding, truck driving, and minor repairs.
• Identify equipment needs for assigned projects; transport and deliver equipment to and from construction sites or bus stop locations; inspect, maintain, and secure equipment.
• Maintain records and logs of work performed and complete basic preventive maintenance on light equipment.
• Transport construction equipment and materials as needed.
• Install street barricades and cones before activities and direct and control traffic around work sites.
• Perform routine repairs to plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures and equipment.
