About The Position

The City of Staunton’s Park Maintenance Department is seeking an Equipment Operator I to perform routine semi-skilled work across a variety of maintenance assignments. The role operates motorized equipment in support of the Parks & Recreation Department and responds to unscheduled emergency work, including storms and ice and snow emergencies. The position involves manual labor for extended periods and work in adverse weather conditions. The employee may be on call on a rotational basis for emergency work and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when inclement weather or other adverse conditions require clearing or work on parks, fields, and similar areas. Requirements

General knowledge of the use of common lawn tools.
Ability to operate light and medium lawn equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
Ability to work without direct supervision and follow safety policies and procedures.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Possess or obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement within one year of employment.
Possess or obtain a Registered Tech Spray endorsement within one year of employment.
Ability to follow instructions, solve problems, and work and think independently and effectively in a team environment.
Ability and willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays when adverse conditions require it.
Subject to random drug testing.

Responsibilities

Perform routine semi-skilled work in a variety of park maintenance assignments.
Operate motorized equipment in support of the Parks & Recreation Department.
Respond to unscheduled emergency work, including storms and ice and snow emergencies.
Clear or perform work on parks, fields, and similar areas during adverse conditions as needed.
Perform manual labor for extended periods.
Follow safety policies and procedures.
