About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join the Street Maintenance team. This role contributes to the maintenance and improvement of Denver’s streets, alleys, and transportation network. The Street Maintenance division is responsible for services including pothole repair, milling, paving, patching, alley maintenance, and street sweeping. It also operates Denver’s asphalt plant and leads the citywide snow response program. This position offers the opportunity to work in the field throughout the City and County of Denver.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Two (2) years of general labor experience which must include six (6) months of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
  • Must hold a valid CDL clear of any restrictions or under prohibited status in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse at the time of application.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.

  • Desire to perform light to heavy physical labor on a variety of projects related to street maintenance
  • Previous experience with street maintenance, and other labor or construction-related tasks
  • Desire to work outside in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.)
  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a Paving, Milling, or Asphalt team
  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Operate weed whackers, snow blowers, rake and shovel asphalt, and run the wing on a paver.
  • Operate light to medium sized equipment for maintenance and minor construction projects
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned including snow removal duties
