About The Position

The Asphalt Milling Operator is responsible for the control and operation of one or more types of milling equipment. This role involves operating milling equipment to properly mill asphalt to desired specifications and manipulating controls to manage the machine's movements on roadways and related surfaces. The operator is also expected to perform preventive maintenance on milling machinery, ensure the efficient working condition of equipment, and perform minor servicing or report major issues to a supervisor. Maintaining a clean company vehicle, tools, and equipment, and reporting safety concerns are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Experience working with construction crews with measurable production goals.
  • Must possess a valid Class A CDL and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
  • Required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Flexible availability to include overtime, possible weekends and nights.
  • Ability to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of milling equipment operation and related asphalt & road construction experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.

Responsibilities

  • Control and operation of one or more types of milling equipment.
  • Operate milling equipment (Skid Steer 262D) to properly mill asphalt to desired specifications.
  • Manipulate hand or foot levers to control movements of milling machine on roadways, parking lots, streets, etc.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all milling machinery.
  • Ensure the efficient working condition of the equipment, performing minor servicing or referring major problems to the supervisor.
  • Keep company vehicle, tools and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Inform management of any safety concerns.
