About The Position

The Department of Military & Veterans Affairs is seeking a hard-working and caring individual dedicated to taking care of residents at the Southeastern Veterans Center. This role is for an ambitious, confident Equipment Operator committed to performing various tasks in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment. The position involves operating automotive equipment to safely transport residents, materials, and supplies on and off facility grounds, supporting essential operations through transportation, maintenance, and safety tasks.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses, and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police and FBI clearance (conditional offer of employment requires medical examination and these clearances).

Responsibilities

  • Operate passenger cars, trucks, vans, buses, and invalid coaches to transport residents and materials to various destinations.
  • Complete inspections and verify locking devices and equipment are properly secured before each trip.
  • Make pickups and deliveries of mail, supplies, materials, drugs, and blood samples, both locally and long distance.
  • Perform minor repairs, cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
  • Assist mechanics with major repairs.
  • Carry out department tasks such as loading vehicles, maintaining records, cleaning work areas, and completing paperwork.
  • Use hand and power tools safely while following all agency safety rules.
