About The Position

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill four (4) temporary full-time Equipment Operators 4 positions for the Roads section. The Equipment Operator 4 will be responsible for operating Graders for lane and rural road maintenance and restorations in a safe and efficient manner. Check, adjust and perform minor maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 License with “Q” endorsement.
  • Completion of courses in defensive driving, traffic rules and regulations, safety and first aid or equivalent.
  • Five years' experience in related construction activities, to provide skill in the operation of assigned equipment and knowledge of the methods and materials used in Roads.
  • Knowledge of the operating characteristics, functions and capabilities of assigned equipment and of required maintenance and adjustments.
  • Ability to operate equipment to the required level of skill, to use various hand tools associated with equipment operation and maintenance and manual work.
  • Ability to work accurately to required grades and specifications.
  • Ability to exercise care and to observe safety precautions when operating equipment near people, traffic, manholes, power and gas lines, and other utilities.

  • Expert Grader Operator with municipal lanes and rural road maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Grader to assist a Foreperson in road construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Remove or "cut" excess material, fill, blade and level materials for the base portion of the road, according to the grade or slope shown by survey grade stakes.
  • Maintain City lanes by blading and shaping gravel and crown lanes to provide adequate drainage.
  • Ability to grade materials in tight and congested areas throughout city with confidence.
  • Refer to and interpret construction plans, blueprints and specification and record drawings.
  • Maintain knowledge of standard Roads' maintenance and repair guidelines and specifications.
  • Receive job assignments and priorities directly from the Supervisor and coordinate activities.
  • Addresses complaints and public concerns in a professional manner.
  • Assist the Foreman in training and testing Equipment Operators in proper methods of operation and safety.
  • Instruct other crew members as required.
  • Maintain a knowledge of appropriate equipment operation and maintenance manuals.

Benefits

  • Remuneration: $34.70 to $40.83 per hour
