About The Position

This is manual work of limited skill in operating trucks and lighter highway construction equipment. The employee is responsible for safe and efficient operation of motor equipment, performs some equipment maintenance and related unskilled work, and follows detailed instructions and established procedures. A supervisor frequently inspects work during progress and upon completion. The position supports maintenance and emergency operations for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL).
N or X CDL endorsement authorizing operation of tank vehicles.
CDL must not have an E restriction prohibiting operation of manual transmission vehicles.
CDL must not have a K restriction limiting the driver to intrastate driving; this restriction applies to employment at Trevose, Homewood, and Searights locations only.
CDL must not have an L or Z restriction prohibiting operation of a commercial vehicle equipped with air brakes.
CDL must not have an O restriction prohibiting operation of a truck tractor/semi-trailer combination.
Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Physical Card).

Responsibilities

Operate assigned construction and maintenance equipment, including trucks, tractor mowers, loaders, rollers, and similar equipment.
Service motor vehicles and perform minor repairs.
Clean assigned equipment and perform minor maintenance or repair work.
Report defective operations and assist mechanics with repairs.
Maintain records of equipment operation.
Perform manual labor when not operating equipment.
Perform routine clerical tasks.
Work extended hours and remain on call 24/7 to assist with normal and emergency operations.
Use the PTC radio system to transmit and receive information.
Perform related duties as assigned.
