About The Position

QE Solar is seeking an experienced Equipment Mechanic to support our vegetation management and field operations throughout Florida. This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing company equipment, utility trailers, and field support assets. The Equipment Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, welding, fabrication, and trailer service to help ensure our field crews have safe, reliable, and properly functioning equipment. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, safety-focused, dependable, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced field service environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of mechanical repair experience involving heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, landscaping equipment, forestry equipment, agricultural equipment, or a related field.
  • Hands-on welding experience; MIG welding experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience inspecting and repairing light- or medium-duty utility trailers.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, diesel, gasoline, electrical, brake, and small-engine systems.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, equipment documentation, and maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to safely operate welding tools, diagnostic equipment, power tools, and mechanical repair equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Valid DOT medical card.
  • Ability to meet QE Solar’s safety, driving, and employment requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting vegetation management, tree care, utility services, renewable energy, construction, landscaping, or field service operations.
  • TIG or stick welding experience.
  • Relevant mechanical, welding, diesel, or equipment-repair certifications.
  • Experience performing DOT-related trailer inspections.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain vegetation management and field equipment, including skid steers, mini excavators, wood chippers, stump grinders, brush cutters, chainsaws, UTVs and ATVs, and small diesel- and gasoline-powered equipment.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections to identify wear, damage, and mechanical concerns before equipment failure occurs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and company schedules.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, fuel, brake, engine, and small-engine systems.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and provide emergency field repairs when necessary.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and proper operation before returning it to service.
  • Perform welding repairs on equipment, trailers, racks, attachments, and other field support assets.
  • Fabricate brackets, mounts, guards, tool-storage solutions, and other components as needed.
  • Complete minor structural repairs on damaged equipment and trailer frames.
  • Inspect welded components for quality, durability, and safe operation.
  • Ensure all welding and fabrication work meets QE Solar’s safety and quality standards.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair light- and medium-duty utility trailers, including brake systems, wheel bearings, axles, suspension components, electrical wiring and lighting systems, hitches and couplers, tires and wheels, and safety chains and breakaway systems.
  • Conduct trailer safety inspections and support compliance with applicable Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Identify trailers that require immediate repair or removal from service.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, repair logs, and service documentation.
  • Monitor parts, materials, and shop supplies and communicate inventory needs to leadership.
  • Order replacement parts and coordinate with vendors when authorized.
  • Support company compliance with safety procedures and applicable DOT regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work environment.
  • Properly store, inspect, and maintain company tools and repair equipment.
  • Communicate equipment conditions, repair timelines, and operational concerns to field and operations leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on operational needs.
