About The Position

Equipment Mechanic – Construction Equipment & Fleet Maintenance Location: Hemet, CA (Shop Based with Local Jobsite Travel) Reports To: Shop Foreman Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt About Canyon Springs Enterprises Canyon Springs Enterprises (CSE) is a well-established General Contractor specializing in commercial, residential, civil, and multi-phase construction projects throughout Southern California. From site development and infrastructure to final project completion, we rely on a diverse fleet of equipment and tools to keep our operations moving efficiently. We are seeking a dependable, skilled, and safety-focused Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, maintaining fleet reliability, and supporting field operations across multiple active construction projects. Position Summary As an Equipment Mechanic with Canyon Springs Enterprises, you will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide variety of construction equipment, vehicles, and jobsite support tools. This position requires a versatile mechanic capable of working independently in both shop and field environments. The ideal candidate possesses strong troubleshooting abilities, hands-on mechanical experience, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. No two days are the same, as you may be servicing heavy equipment one day and repairing small engines or support equipment the next.

Requirements

  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with small engine repair and basic automotive maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair common mechanical issues.
  • 2–4 years of experience servicing construction equipment or heavy machinery.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform diagnostics and repairs with minimal supervision.
  • 5+ years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment.
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven experience with hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems.
  • Valid California Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel to local jobsites during the workweek.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and company policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications preferred, including: ASE Certifications, Manufacturer-Specific Certifications, Technical School Degree or Equivalent Training
  • CDL License (Preferred but not required).
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience operating construction equipment for testing and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of fleet maintenance software or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems.
  • Service and repair heavy construction equipment including: Excavators, Skid Steers, Skip Loaders, Telehandlers, Forklifts, Backhoes, Compactors, Other fleet equipment as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot and repair small gas and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Maintain and service: Generators, Concrete saws, Air compressors, Water pumps, Jumping jacks/rammers, Miscellaneous job site tools and equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Conduct oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, lubrication, and component inspections.
  • Monitor equipment condition and recommend repairs before failures occur.
  • Ensure all equipment remains compliant with safety requirements and operational standards.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance at the Hemet shop facility.
  • Travel to active jobsites as needed to diagnose and repair equipment in the field.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency service requests.
  • Coordinate with operations and field personnel to prioritize repairs and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and inspection reports.
  • Document parts usage and equipment history.
  • Assist with inventory management of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair timelines to management.
