About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic 2 for the Facilities Maintenance Services (FMS) Department. This position is responsible for equipment repair and maintenance for the department’s fleet.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR Completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR One (1) year of experience as an Equipment Mechanic 1 in Nevada State Service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
  • This position requires a State of Nevada 2G Emission Repairman’s License and a Refrigerant Recovery License within 365 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to electrical, charging, starting, fuel, suspension, engine, transmission, air conditioning, body, brakes, chassis, exhaust, drive axle, and heating and cooling systems
  • Perform tune-ups and emissions testing
  • Clean and maintain all equipment properly
  • Utilize the work order system to record labor
  • Stock critical spares and maintain adequate supplies
  • Order parts and supplies as needed from approved parts vendors, distributors and dealerships
  • Respond to emergency calls for service
  • Other duties as assigned
