About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic 2 for the Facilities Maintenance Services (FMS) Department. This position is responsible for equipment repair and maintenance for the department’s fleet. Duties include performing scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnosing malfunctions and performing repairs to various vehicle systems, performing tune-ups and emissions testing, cleaning and maintaining equipment, utilizing the work order system, stocking critical spares, ordering parts and supplies, and responding to emergency calls for service.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR Completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR One (1) year of experience as an Equipment Mechanic 1 in Nevada State Service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment
  • Must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances
  • Must obtain a State of Nevada 2G Emission Repairman’s License and a Refrigerant Recovery License within 365 days of employment

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to electrical, charging, starting, fuel, suspension, engine, transmission, air conditioning, body, brakes, chassis, exhaust, drive axle, and heating and cooling systems
  • Perform tune-ups and emissions testing
  • Clean and maintain all equipment properly
  • Utilize the work order system to record labor
  • Stock critical spares and maintain adequate supplies
  • Order parts and supplies as needed from approved parts vendors, distributors and dealerships
  • Respond to emergency calls for service
  • Other duties as assigned
