Seasonal Equestrian Specialist - Camp Speers
About The Position
The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring a seasonal Equestrian Specialist at Camp Speers in the Poconos. The role supports camp riding activities and helps create a safe, positive environment for children and teens. The specialist teaches English and Western riding at assigned levels, provides instruction in basic horse and barn management, and assists with horses’ daily feeding, care, and routine health checks under the supervision of the Equestrian Director. The position also helps maintain the stable, riding arenas, pastures, fencing, and ranch area. The role is listed at $350–$450 per week. Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- At least one year of experience working with children and teens.
- Knowledge of horse care and riding instruction.
- Experience or aptitude for working closely with children in a positive, supportive manner.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
- Enjoyment of working with children and maintaining positive relationships with their parents in high-energy athletic environments.
- Excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing the program curriculum for all riding activities.
- Enforce all riding procedures.
- Teach English and Western riding at various levels as assigned.
- Teach basic horse and barn management.
- Assist in establishing and carrying out daily feed and care procedures for horses.
- Perform routine health checks and identify and treat minor horse illnesses and ailments under the supervision of the Equestrian Director.
- Help keep the stable, riding arenas, pastures, fencing, and general ranch area clean and in good repair.
- Ensure programs meet the needs of campers of all ages, abilities, and skill levels while maintaining their safety and well-being.
