About The Position

The Steadman Philippon Research Institute is known throughout the world for research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of orthopaedic disorders. SPRI is committed to solving orthopaedic problems that limit an individual's ability to maintain an active life. Research Assistants support Steadman Philippon Research Institute staff in research tasks which includes Center for Outcomes-Based Orthopaedic Research (COOR).

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills with patients, clinicians, and research scientists.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and physicians.
  • Well-developed administrative skills with a pro-active approach to organizing tasks.
  • Collaborative approach to work.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and workflow management skills required.
  • Must maintain a professional attitude towards patients and an excellent and collegial working relationship with other Steadman Clinic and hospital personnel involved in patient care.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, ability to work independently, and manage time effectively.
  • Computer and EHR software proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant, EMT, LPN or RN licensing/certification, preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with applicable patient care and administrative duties preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and conducting experimental lab procedures.
  • Conducting literature reviews.
  • Compiling research data, preparing presentations.
  • Writing manuscripts for journal publication.
  • Co-authorship is attainable for research assistants according to the same policy that applies to all SPRI researchers (ICMJE guidelines).
  • Maintain personal commitment to the Steadman Philippon Research Institutes Foundation’s mission and values.
  • Maintain confidentiality of acquired information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Specific responsibilities related to the Epigenetics Program:
  • Integrate seamlessly with clinic flow.
  • Review study details with prospective patient candidates and obtain informed consent for research participation.
  • Lead acquisition, transport, storage, and shipping for discarded tissue samples.
  • Gain expertise in the fields of epigenetic profiling and musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Participate in team decision making to guide program direction.
