About The Position

This position supports and enhances public health surveillance and detection capacities of the Office of Preparedness and Response (OP&R) by participating in biosurveillance and other drug-overdose monitoring and analysis activities as part of the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program. This includes partnering and collaborating with other epidemiologists working on overdose data across agencies monthly and annual data reporting requirements to the OD2A DOSE program and regular collaboration with overdose prevention and response teams. This position is considered Emergency Essential, functions on a 24/7 status, and may need to respond to public health or other emergency and provide own transportation. This position is eligible for telework per the Director of OP&R's leadership. Employees must adhere to the current MDH and OP&R's telework policy.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology.
  • One graduate course in Biostatistics.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in biosurveillance and other drug-overdose monitoring and analysis activities as part of the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program.
  • Partnering and collaborating with other epidemiologists working on overdose data across agencies.
  • Meeting monthly and annual data reporting requirements to the OD2A DOSE program.
  • Regular collaboration with overdose prevention and response teams.
  • Responding to public health or other emergencies as needed (24/7 status).
  • Providing own transportation for emergency response.
