Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Education, Information Technology, Business, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of healthcare, operational, clinical, training, or Epic experience.
  • Experience developing and delivering instructor-led and virtual training.
  • Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Epic Principal Trainer Certification in assigned application(s), or ability to obtain within the organization's required timeframe.

Nice To Haves

  • Epic application certification/proficiency preferred.
  • Experience supporting Epic implementations or optimization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations and clinical workflows.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Experience creating eLearning or multimedia educational content.
  • Familiarity with change management principles.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to translate technical workflows into easy-to-understand educational content.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain role-based curricula, lesson plans, participant guides, eLearning modules, simulations, assessments, and job aids for assigned Epic application(s).
  • Create realistic workflow scenarios using Epic training environments to support hands-on learning.
  • Ensure all training materials reflect current workflows, organizational standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Update educational content following Epic upgrades, optimization efforts, and workflow changes.
  • Develop Quick Reference Guides (QRGs), Tip Sheets, FAQs, and workflow documentation to reinforce learning.
  • Facilitate instructor-led classroom, virtual, and one-on-one training sessions for providers, clinical staff, and operational personnel.
  • Assess learner competency through knowledge assessments, practical exercises, and observation.
  • Provide individualized coaching and remediation when needed.
  • Deliver refresher training and continuing education opportunities to support ongoing proficiency.
  • Serve as the primary training resource for assigned Epic application(s).
  • Collaborate with Epic analysts and operational stakeholders to understand new functionality and workflow changes.
  • Participate in integrated testing, workflow validation, and training environment maintenance.
  • Identify educational gaps and recommend training solutions to improve user adoption.
  • Support Epic implementations, upgrades, optimization projects, and new feature deployments.
  • Participate in project meetings, workflow discussions, and change management activities.
  • Develop and execute project-specific training plans and communication strategies.
  • Provide at-the-elbow support during go-live events and stabilization periods.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through learner feedback, competency scores, and operational metrics.
  • Analyze support trends to identify opportunities for additional education or workflow improvements.
  • Maintain version control and quality standards for all educational materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance training delivery and learner engagement.
  • Build strong partnerships with clinical and operational leaders, analysts, informatics teams, and fellow Principal Trainers.
  • Share best practices and standardize educational materials across Epic applications where appropriate.
  • Mentor Credentialed Trainers, Super Users, and department educators.
