About The Position

The EO/IR Subsystem & Seeker Development Portfolio at Leidos is seeking an EO/IR Assembly, Integration, & Test (AI&T) Lead to support the development of advanced electro-optical and infrared sensor systems for defense and aerospace applications. The role leads cross-functional assembly, integration, and testing across electrical, mechanical, and optical domains. The systems provide target detection and tracking capabilities for operational environments, and the Lead will work with engineers, scientists, and software developers on new and existing solutions for future fielded systems. The position involves developing and executing plans and procedures, conducting system-level testing and calibration, resolving integration issues, and supporting manufacturing, production planning, commissioning, acceptance testing, and delivery. The laboratory and production environments must meet applicable military quality standards, including AS9100, FOD control, and ESD protection. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and have, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Secret clearance. The role is based in the Huntsville, Alabama area; candidates must reside there or be willing to relocate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, with 4–8 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 2–6 years of relevant experience. Additional education, experience, or training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in systems integration, particularly with EO/IR sensor systems or related electro-optical technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and optical.
  • Understanding of EO/IR sensor components, including detectors, optics, electronics, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with system-level testing, integration procedures, and validation methodologies.
  • Proficiency with test equipment and instrumentation relevant to EO/IR systems, such as optical test benches, thermal imaging equipment, and signal analyzers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville, Alabama area.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess and be able to maintain a Final Secret Clearance, or meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with infrared sensor technology, seeker systems, and targeting systems.
  • Knowledge of thermal management and environmental testing for sensor systems.
  • Experience with military standards and regulations related to defense systems, such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu or other Linux-based operating systems.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ for test automation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including tooling, kitting, quality control, and 5S/Lean.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assembly of EO/IR sensor systems, coordinating electrical, mechanical, and optical engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware, software, and optical components.
  • Develop and execute assembly, integration, and test plans for complex sensor systems in accordance with performance specifications and requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and execute unit build procedures and work instructions in line with a low-rate production build schedule.
  • Conduct system-level testing, calibration, and validation in laboratory and field environments.
  • Ensure laboratory and production environments meet military quality standards and regulations, including FOD control, ESD protection, and AS9100.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across electrical, mechanical, thermal, and optical domains.
  • Manage technical interfaces among detectors, optics, electronics, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Document integration processes, test procedures, test results, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in design and integration reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support system commissioning, acceptance testing, and delivery activities.
