About The Position

Stratolaunch is seeking an Environmental Test Engineer to lead qualification and acceptance testing of avionics hardware throughout its development lifecycle. The role works with avionics, systems, environmental-analysis, and integration engineers to turn requirements into practical test programs, design and build test systems, conduct environmental and functional tests, and document results. The engineer owns test planning, execution, analysis, and reporting for avionics components and assemblies. The position supports test-system design and construction, including instrumentation, harnesses, fixtures, and data-acquisition systems, and develops Python-based tools for data collection, analysis, and limited automation. Testing may include functional, thermal, vibration, shock, and thermal-vacuum campaigns. The position is on-site in Mojave, California, with travel as needed (estimated at less than 5%) and a 9/80 schedule. The role may involve operating company vehicles as part of assigned duties. The position is offered at Level I, Level II, Senior, or Staff, with level and base salary established case by case based on factors including location, education, skills, and experience. Salary ranges are $79,700–$101,600 for Level I, $91,000–$117,700 for Level II, $108,800–$114,100 for Senior, and $132,600–$175,500 for Staff. Stratolaunch describes itself as an equal opportunity employer and notes that U.S. citizenship may be required for some positions involving government clearance or other restrictions.

Requirements

  • Experience in one or more relevant disciplines, including electrical engineering, software engineering, avionics, experimental aircraft, or launch-vehicle integration.
  • Experience designing, integrating, or operating electrical test and instrumentation systems, such as NI cDAQ or comparable data-acquisition platforms.
  • Experience supporting environmental test campaigns, including thermal cycling, random vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, or similar testing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, software, instrumentation, and hardware-in-the-loop test issues.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation, including test procedures, reports, and discrepancy/anomaly documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoW security clearance.
  • A bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited institution and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Level I specifies 1–2 years; Level II specifies 2–5 years; Senior specifies 5–8 years; Staff specifies 8 or more years.
  • For some positions involving a government clearance or other restricted positions, U.S. citizenship may be required.
