About The Position

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Technician for our Borger, Texas field office. This field-based role supports environmental site assessment, investigation, and remediation activities by conducting inspection, sampling, and contractor oversight tasks. This position works closely with the Field Operations Lead to execute projects safely and efficiently, with a strong emphasis on data quality and regulatory compliance. The Environmental Technician supports field execution by collaborating with project teams and promoting a strong safety culture. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability, a team-oriented mindset, and the ability to work independently in the field while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • High School diploma AND a minimum 4 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • US Citizen/US Permanent Resident.
  • Proficient with basic computer programs; MS Word and MS Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, 30-hour OSHA Supervisor training, First Aid/CPR training, and AECOM specific training
  • Obtain the Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) and the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification.
  • Experience managing and tracking hazardous and non-hazardous waste for offsite transport and disposal.
  • Experience working at an active refinery site.
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling methods and experience using field equipment (e.g., GPS, PID, 4-gas meter, digit data collection, etc.).
  • Experience performing independent field work and providing oversight of contractor field activities.
  • Possess strong work ethic and problem-solving skills with the ability to function independently while conducting field work.
  • Exhibit a mature sense of professional responsibility and awareness of accepted standards of professional behavior.
  • Proficient technical writing skills and ability to effectively express his or herself orally in project reviews conducted among internal staff.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine fieldwork including sampling of environmental media (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and air), utilizing standard field equipment and instruments for data collection and monitoring such as photoionization detectors (PID), soil-groundwater interface probes, and multiparameter water quality meters.
  • Performing environmental site assessments/inspections and basic calculations related to site investigation and remediation activities.
  • Managing field sample chain-of-custody documentation, packaging, and shipping to laboratories.
  • Performing operation and maintenance (O&M) on remediation systems
  • Overseeing contractor field tasks related to site investigation and remediation activities.
  • Supporting the coordination of field activities, including utility locating, surveying, and oversight of investigation and remediation projects under the direction and guidance of project managers.
  • Documenting field activities accurately and maintains detailed, organized field notes in accordance with project requirements.
  • Communicating effectively with project managers and team members to provide timely updates on field progress, and safety observations.
  • Building experience toward an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
