This is professional work assisting the environmental manager in one of the five statewide multi-county geographic areas. The incumbent uses independent judgment and performs the more difficult or complicated inspections, assists the manager with inspection priorities and conducts training. Duties include conducting assigned on-site inspections of x-ray facilities and users of radioactive materials, performing radiation emergency response duties, assessing hazards and taking appropriate actions to minimize radiation exposure to workers, the public, and the environment, and performing radiation related investigations as assigned. The role also involves serving as a mentor for new staff, maintaining and enhancing professional and technical skills through training and professional organizations, serving as a radiation technical advisor when answering radiation workers and public concerns, serving on committees when requested to further radiation research issues, assisting the environmental manager by providing technical, scientific and professional guidance, investigating special areas and reporting unusual findings to the environmental manager, and serving on in-house workgroups as assigned. Other related duties as assigned. The incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Available on a 24-hour-a-day basis for response to radiation emergencies. Perform duties as a member of the State Radiation Emergency Response Team. Employee is subject to emergency calls from his residence for the protection of life or property. This position is in compliance with and monitors compliance (when applicable) with the mandatory requirements in Sections 215.422 and 112.061, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 691-24.001, Florida Administrative Code. The incumbent is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code. Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License. The incumbent in this position may be required to use vehicles owned, leased, or operated by the state or county to conduct official state business. State or county vehicles shall be used only for officially authorized duties and not for personal use, unless a specific exception applies under Florida law (F.S. § 287.17). Must be able to lift 60 pounds of equipment. Pcard responsibilities. Must receive a minimum score of 70% on each written exam of the required core training modules and must attend all required core training courses designated in the training and qualification procedures. Federal certification in mammography inspections (MQSA - Mammography Quality Standards Act) will be required if deemed necessary by the Field Operations Environmental Administrator.
