About The Position

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws. The Ohio EPA wants you to join us as an environmental specialist with the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at our Northeast District Office in Summit County. We are looking for a motivated and capable individual to lead and mentor technical staff, providing direction, guidance, and training to support the division’s critical work on cleaning up and remediating contaminated sites throughout the state. Your responsibilities will include peer reviewing technical work and project deliverables for accuracy and completeness, supporting program planning and coordination, and assisting management in implementing DERR programs. To ensure projects are on track and compliant with agency processes and rules, you’ll act as a site coordinator and guide cleanup activities on large and complex environmental projects. Collaboration and communication are essential to DERR’s processes, and you’ll coordinate with other divisions, agencies, local governments, and community groups to advance program goals. You’ll represent the division in public forums, settlement discussions, and training events and provide technical assistance to the regulated community, stakeholders, and the public.

Requirements

  • 7 yrs. relevant programmatic exp. OR combination of education in environmentally focused discipline or other job-related discipline & specific programmatic experience equaling 7 yrs. OR completion of undergraduate core coursework in environmentally-related discipline; AND 3 yrs. relevant programmatic exp. OR 2 yrs. relevant programmatic experience as Environmental Supervisor, 85865. OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Applicants must be able to provide own transportation for all positions involved in field work.
  • New employees in OEPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
