About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for the thorough cleaning of assigned areas, including furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, and showers. This role involves high and low dusting, mopping floors, cleaning door frames and ceiling vents, and vacuuming carpets. The technician must adhere to all organizational policies, infection prevention standards, and observe isolation procedures. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of EVS closets, carts, and equipment, and for reporting any safety hazards or equipment in need of repair. This position also involves replenishing supplies, handling waste disposal according to regulations, and potentially operating specialized equipment like the Xenex UV Light robot. Additionally, the technician may be involved in special projects such as coordinating with affected departments for upcoming projects and moving furniture and equipment safely. Making beds and utilizing tracking systems are also key duties. The role requires knowledge of correct chemical usage for different pathogens and proper mixing and storage of chemicals.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

  • Knowledgeable and can identify various bed types.
  • Effectively performs scheduled floor cleaning which includes stripping, scrubbing, finishing, shampooing, and extracting in a timely manner.
  • Operates, understands, and maintains all equipment (i.e. extractors, vacuums, wet vac, burnisher, flatbed, etc.) in a safe and professional manner.
  • Work is performed according to standard practices and procedures with some independent judgment required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of assigned areas including furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, and showers.
  • Perform high and low dusting of TVs, lights, walls, mop floors, elevators, and stairs.
  • Clean door frames, ceiling vents, and vacuum carpets.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Observe all isolation procedures and Infection Prevention Standards.
  • Maintain EVS closet, EVS cart, and all equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Report any safety hazards or equipment in need of repair to supervisor and/or Facilities.
  • Maintain correct amount of supplies and replenish paper, soap supplies, and hand sanitizer.
  • Hang cubicles/drapes according to department policy.
  • Coordinate special project assignments, including contacting affected departments and posting informational signs.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as requested, adhering to departmental safety and lifting procedures.
  • Properly mix and store chemicals to achieve correct dilution ratio.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment, including safety goggles when needed.
  • Use wet floor signs to block off work areas.
  • Make beds in accordance with specific area needs and identify various bed types.
  • Utilize bed tracking phone/pager, place bed in EPIC, and remove when completed.
  • Respond to phone/pager calls from supervisor within 5 minutes.
  • Report phone/pager problems to supervisor.
  • Log out of EPIC.
  • Ensure dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient.
  • Use Xenex UV Light robot for specified rooms where available.
  • Return soiled and clean unused mops to the department and place in proper containers/areas.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Adhere to proper handling, transport, and disposal of all waste types, including hazardous, infectious, sharps, confidential, recycling, and regular trash.
  • Complete DOT Certification to package and transport regulated medical waste.
  • Effectively perform scheduled floor cleaning, including stripping, scrubbing, finishing, shampooing, and extracting.
  • Perform spot cleaning of carpets, carpet bonneting, extraction, burnishing, and wet/dry vacuuming.
  • Operate, understand, and maintain all equipment (e.g., extractors, vacuums, wet vac, burnisher, flatbed) in a safe and professional manner.
  • Clean equipment after use and ensure batteries are charged.
