About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This Environmental Services Technician position is a full-time role with evening shifts, working 40 hours per week. The primary responsibility is to maintain a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to ensure a clean and sterile atmosphere. Cleaning may extend to patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas. The technician must wear appropriate protective equipment, keep supplies stocked and organized, and may assist in laundry areas. Access to and appropriate use of pagers and other technology is expected. The position involves significant physical activity, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weights. The individual will be on their feet for most of the shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours can vary based on patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of their shift.
  • Ability to climb, lift, balance, walk, stoop, twist, squat, and handle materials.
