About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role may involve cleaning various locations such as patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician will wear appropriate protective equipment, keep supplies stocked, and may use pagers and other technology. Responsibilities can also include assisting in laundry areas and potentially using technology applications. The job requires significant physical activity including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weights. The position requires being on feet for the majority of the shift and may involve exposure to noise from equipment. Work hours can vary based on patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas.
  • Following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Emptying waste baskets.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered equipment.
  • Cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wearing proper protective equipment.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately.
  • Assisting in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Using technology applications depending on location and availability.
  • Performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 40-50 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Being on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Working varying hours including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
