About The Position

This position is responsible for providing environmental services throughout buildings of the Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board (GPTLHB), including the Oyate Health Center (OHC). The essential functions define the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties. This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands and work environment may include: The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, repetitive tasks which require the employee to stand, walk, bend, crouch or stoop: use hands and fingers to manipulate, handle or feel; must be able to read, write, speak and hear. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects up to 20lbs on occasion, employee must handle contaminated materials capable of causing injury if improperly handled, and work in environments susceptible to communicable diseases. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and irritating chemicals which require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gowns, gloves. Participates in Core Connections training and applies GPTLHB Core Connections concepts and practices in their work. Familiarity and/or experience working with American Indian populations and respect for and knowledge of traditional, cultural, and spiritual practices of diverse American Indian communities, as well as an ability to work with other culturally and ethnically diverse populations. Proficiency with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Internet technologies. Valid driver’s license must be kept current, and certificates, credentials or licenses must be kept current and consistent with regulations required by applicable federal, state and/or grant regulations as applies to position. Work in a cooperative and professional manner with OHC and GPTLHB staff. Treat Great Plains tribes and collaborators with dignity and respect. Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills. Advance personal educational development by attending training sessions and seminars as appropriate. Requirements

HS Diploma or GED.
General experience performing simple, routine, or repetitive tasks or operations that typically include following step-by-step general experience operating simple equipment or equipment that operates repetitively and requires little or no previous training or experience.

Nice To Haves

Housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting preferred, but willing to train the right person.
Five (5) years of service at Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board/Oyate Health Center at Level 1; Or demonstrated proficiency as an Environmental Services Technician (for Level 2)
Familiarity and/or experience working with American Indian populations and respect for and knowledge of traditional, cultural, and spiritual practices of diverse American Indian communities, as well as an ability to work with other culturally and ethnically diverse populations.

Responsibilities

Vacuums, dust mops, wet mops floors, stairways, corridors, elevators, clinics, exam rooms, waiting rooms, utility rooms, offices, bathrooms and other assigned areas daily; cleans patient care areas rooms on special cleaning detail as instructed using proper antiseptic techniques; and, vacuums ceiling vents as required.
Operates carpet cleaning equipment, using spot cleaners and chemical solutions.
Strips and re-applies floor sealer and finish as necessary. Polishes and buffs floor with electric floor polisher.
Uses vacuum cleaner with water equipment attachments for wet floor pick-up, plumbing overflow and other floor flooding cleaning methods.
Scrubs and cleans toilet bowls, urinals, sinks, showers and fixtures, mirrors, soap dispensers with appropriate germicidal solutions.
Washes walls, windows, blinds, doors, light covers and glass partitions.
Replenishes paper supplies and liquid soap in dispensers, hand sanitizers where applicable.
Empties and cleans waste receptacles; replaces liners; collect infectious waste in red bags to be picked up by a contractor who disposes at a proper state disposal plant.
Collects soiled linen from the utility room and transports bin for laundry pickup. Replaces bags on hamper frame as needed. Removes and replaces soiled cubicle curtains, drapes and shower curtains as necessary.
Receives clean hospital linen deliveries.
Determines what isolation cleaning procedures are necessary in-patient care areas/rooms; uses prescribed protective and isolation cleaning procedures.
Reports repair needs to appropriate personnel.
Maintains activity log of daily, weekly, and monthly routine cleaning activities.
Maintain workspace, clean area and stock inventory in closet/hub.
Performs related duties.
