About The Position

St. Luke’s Health – Memorial Lufkin is a 279-bed facility and a member of CommonSpirit Health, a national nonprofit health system serving East Texas. As an Environmental Services Technician, you will be responsible for keeping patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized to protect everyone from potential illness or injury. This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks, using specialized equipment and techniques for sanitization, and adhering to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials. You will also refill dispensers and deliver clean linens. A well-maintained facility with compassionate staff brings comfort and peace of mind to patients, their loved ones, and all who serve here. You will be responsible for completing assigned daily cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and common areas, demonstrating knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles. This includes safe chemical use and equipment handling, adherence to safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines, and participation in departmental performance improvement initiatives. You will also remove and transport waste to appropriate disposal areas, identifying proper waste stream handling in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Completing as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
• Performing duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements.
• Displaying safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment.
• Adhering to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
• Actively participating in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Removing waste and transporting to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous) in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
