About The Position

APTIM has an immediate need for an Environmental Scientist on a full-time basis to participate in a variety of environmental, health, and safety compliance support tasks, such as, diversified industry hygiene sampling, asbestos consulting services, mold assessments, and lead assessment surveys. Other work could include industrial hygiene air sampling, and soil and groundwater sampling. This individual will be performing field duties but will also directly work with clients. APTIM is looking for an individual who can work independently with enough field experience to limit the amount of technical training required. The successful candidate MUST be willing to travel and work in industrial facilities. Travel is expected to average 5 days a month, though some projects may require longer extended stays of 1 or 2 months. This position will consist of a mix of field and office work, where the applicant will be required to write final reports. The candidate must have good writing skills and skills in working in Excel, WORD and some sales software application. This position will include the ability to work remotely, when work allows, but the candidate may be required to work at APTIM’s Office located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey on a limited basis. The candidate must have valid asbestos certifications or state licenses as an USEPA AHERA Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Abatement Project Monitor (or Project Designer). APTIM will provide some site-specific technical training when needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related area required.
  • Related work experience between 5+ years.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills required. Must have a demonstrated strength and proficiency in Microsoft applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint Online, etc. and the ability to learn other software applications.
  • Willing to work in the field.
  • Must be willing to travel with overnight trips ranging from a few nights up to multiple weeks. Though travel is not consistent.
  • Must have valid asbestos certifications or state licenses as an USEPA AHERA Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Abatement Project Monitor (or Project Designer).

Responsibilities

  • Executing various work scopes, while meeting project schedules and budgets.
  • Working independently and as part of a project team and be able to adjust to changing conditions.
  • Working as a team member and/or team lead to assist in preparation of reports
  • Interfacing with client facility personnel (with eventual interaction directly with client management).
  • Site sampling (asbestos, lead, mold, air, water, soil, noise, and other industrial hygiene services).
  • Perform site assessments/inspections for environmental, health, and safety, up to and including job safety assessments (JSA).
  • Future progress into becoming a Project Manager and managing client contracts and business development.
  • Eventually learning APTIM management requirements including financial cost build-up, multipliers, margins and business procedures.
  • Individual should be aware that the field work can be physically challenging and involve working in industrial settings.
  • Working at heights, and areas of high temperatures are a possibility.
