About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Services has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. As an Environmental Scientist in the Waste Permits Section, you won’t just review paperwork—you’ll influence critical decisions on solid waste permitting, guide technical evaluations, and collaborate with stakeholders ranging from regulatory agencies to the public. Your work will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, safeguarding public health, and advancing the goals of the Solid Waste Program.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A master’s degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and review solid waste permit applications, including modifications, closure, and post-closure plans
  • Coordinate and conduct technical reviews to ensure regulatory compliance and program standards
  • Communicate with regulated entities, the public, and state and federal agencies
  • Support the implementation and goals of the Solid Waste Program through scientific expertise
  • Assist in managing permitting processes and related environmental documentation
