About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Assessment has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. Step into a dynamic environmental science role where you’ll operate advanced sampling equipment, conduct statewide field surveys, and generate the data that shapes water quality decisions.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field; OR A master’s degree or doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field.

Responsibilities

• Support statewide Mercury Sampling Program operations, including fieldwork, equipment preparation, sample collection, and data processing across diverse water systems.
• Conduct hands-on environmental field surveys using boats, ATVs, and advanced monitoring equipment to collect water quality, biological, and hydrological data.
• Operate and maintain cutting-edge scientific instruments (e.g., flow meters, GPS systems, water quality monitors) to ensure accurate and reliable environmental measurements.
• Compile, analyze, and manage environmental data by entering results into databases, preparing reports, and ensuring data integrity in alignment with established standards.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to plan and execute surveys, follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and support critical water planning and assessment initiatives.
