About The Position

Handex is seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist for its Fort Lauderdale region. This role will support project managers with various environmental activities including Contamination Assessment (soil/groundwater sampling and oversight), Emergency Response, Remediation, and Environmental Support Services. Handex Consulting & Remediation, LLC is a full-service environmental company with over 50 years of experience in consulting, remediation, construction, emergency response, and sludge dewatering across the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology or Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 0-2 years of environmental experience working on groundwater and soil sampling, pumps and well installations, drilling, field assessments, emergency response, systems operations, and overall maintenance.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing environmental activities (soil/water/vapor).
  • Knowledge of Florida state, county, local regulations, rules, SOP’s, guidelines, DEP, DOT etc.
  • Proficient technical skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and a team player with a can do attitude.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, dealing with both Handex colleagues as well as customers and regulators is a must.

  • Applicable internships a plus.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and a TWIC Card a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sampling and/or monitoring at client sites and ports, including groundwater and soil sampling, well installations, air sampling, soil borings, potable well surveys, aquifer testing, and pilot testing.
  • Work on client sites in the Fort Lauderdale Region and potentially other FL regions.
  • Interface daily with internal and external staff and clients.
  • Assist with the preparation of Health & Safety Plans, data tables, and report figures.
  • Daily usage of pumps, mechanical equipment, and tools.
  • Support 24-hour Emergency Response activities for contracted FDOT State-owned roads as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with FDOT/FDEP regulations, SOP’s, guidelines, and safety protocols.
  • Assist with necessary permitting for FDOT MOT and NPDES Discharging.
  • Professionally represent Handex at all times and maintain open communication with clients and internal staff.
